Before you fax

  • The VA also takes the claim online at VA.gov, by mail to the Claims Intake Center (PO Box 4444, Janesville, WI 53547-4444), in person at a regional office, or through an accredited representative or Veterans Service Organization.
  • If you plan to file on paper, the VA suggests submitting an intent to file first; it can give you more time to finish the claim.
  • You have up to a year from the date the VA receives your claim to turn in evidence.
  • These numbers are for the disability claim application. The VA's pages for decision reviews, pension and CHAMPVA list online and mail options, not these numbers.

How to send it without a fax machine

  1. Fill in and sign VA Form 21-526EZ.
  2. Scan or photograph every page, plus any evidence you're sending with it.
  3. Enter 844-531-7818 (or 248-524-4260 from abroad) and add the pages.
  4. Send, and keep the delivery receipt as proof of when the VA received it.

Questions

What is the VA fax number for disability claims?

844-531-7818 from the U.S. and 248-524-4260 from outside the U.S., for VA Form 21-526EZ.

Can I fax a VA pension or CHAMPVA claim to the same number?

No. Those are handled by other VA offices, and the VA's own pages for them give online and mail options rather than a fax number.

Do I have to send evidence with the claim?

No. The VA encourages sending supporting documents with the claim so it can be processed faster, and you have up to a year from the date it receives your claim to turn evidence in.

Do the numbers change?

They can. We compare them with VA.gov regularly; the date we last checked is at the bottom of this page.
