How to fax from Outlook

Outlook sends email, not faxes: a fax has to be dialed to a fax machine over a phone line. To fax a document you have in Outlook, save the attachment and send it from here. A Word document needs saving as a PDF first.

  1. Open the email, select the attachment and choose Save As (or Download) to put it on your computer or phone.
  2. For a Word document, open it and save or export it as a PDF.
  3. Enter the recipient's fax number here and add the file.
  4. Check the page count and the price, send, and keep the delivery result.

Can Outlook send a fax through an email-to-fax service?

Yes, if you subscribe to one: you email an address made from the fax number and the service faxes the attachment. For a fax now and then, sending the attachment from here needs no account or plan.

What about Windows Fax and Scan?

Windows' own fax program needs a fax modem connected to a phone line, which most computers no longer have.

Which files can I fax?

PDF, JPEG and PNG files, up to 30 pages per fax. Save other formats as PDF first.
