# Fax Form SS-4 (EIN application) to the IRS

If your business is in one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C., fax Form SS-4 to 855-641-6935. The IRS faxes the EIN back, generally within 4 business days.

## Before you fax

- The IRS recommends applying online if you can, and an online application gives you the EIN immediately. The online application needs a U.S. or U.S. territory address.
- The IRS sends the EIN back by fax, so write a fax number where you can receive faxes on the form. PageFax can send your form but can't receive the reply.
- These fax numbers are only for EIN applications. Other forms go to other numbers.
- The IRS issues one EIN per responsible party per day, however you apply.

## Steps

1. Fill in Form SS-4, including a return fax number, and sign it.
2. Scan or photograph the signed pages, or use the PDF you filled in.
3. Enter 855-641-6935 (or the international number that applies to you) and add the pages.
4. Send, and keep the delivery receipt as proof of when you faxed it.
5. Expect the EIN by fax, generally within 4 business days.

No. The IRS says these Fax-TIN numbers can only be used to apply for an EIN.
