# Fax documents to Social Security

Social Security has no single fax number: each local office has its own. Find yours in the office locator at ssa.gov/locator: search your ZIP code, open Office information, and look for Fax under Contact numbers.

## Where to find the fax number

| What you are sending | Where the fax number is |
| --- | --- |
| Forms, pay stubs, bank statements and other documents for your local office | The office locator on SSA.gov. Search your ZIP code, open Office information for your office, and use the Fax number listed under Contact numbers. (https://www.ssa.gov/locator) |
| Records that Social Security or your state's Disability Determination Services asked for in a disability claim | The fax number printed on the request letter. The letter carries a barcode and must be the first page of your fax. |

## Before you fax

- Check whether you can upload instead. With a my Social Security account you can submit many forms, bank statements, pay stubs, financial records and rental agreements online.
- Social Security also takes documents by mail and in the drop box at your local office.
- For a disability claim, the barcode page from Social Security or the state agency must be the first page of each document you send. Records from two doctors need the barcode page in front of each.
- Social Security asks that a fax to its disability fax numbers is no more than 200 pages. PageFax sends up to 30 pages per fax, so split a longer set.

## Steps

1. Find the fax number: your office's in the locator, or the one on the request letter.
2. Scan or photograph your pages. Put the barcode letter first if you were sent one.
3. Enter the fax number and add the pages.
4. Send, and keep the delivery receipt; it shows the number, the time and how many pages arrived.

## Questions

**Is there one fax number for the Social Security Administration?**

No. Each local office has its own fax number, listed in the office locator on SSA.gov, and disability requests come with their own fax number on the request letter.

**Can I fax pay stubs or bank statements to Social Security?**

Yes, to your local office's fax number. Social Security also lets you upload pay stubs and bank statements online with a my Social Security account.

**Is faxing Social Security secure?**

Social Security says, about faxing records for disability claims, that faxing is secure under all appropriate privacy rules.

**How do I know my fax arrived?**

Your delivery receipt shows whether the fax went through and how many pages were sent. Social Security's guidance for faxed records is the same: the fax confirmation should show a successful transmission and the number of pages.
